Integrity Worldwide is building a library for the 10,000 children living in the village of Meto, Kenya. The people of Meto have asked for a library, because education to them is almost as important as food and water.
Unfortunately, there is not an adequate supply of books, pencils, paper, and teaching supplies available for students. “Right now, 10 children have to share 1 book,” says the headmaster of the primary school who has been challenged by this problem for years. “The children can’t get educated without books, but a lot of parents are not even able to pay for school tuition or the children's school uniforms. Those parents who are fortunate enough to be able to pay the tuition are still challenged to pay for books and supplies.”
Our goal with the Meg Truman Children's Library is to supply the children of Meto with the school books and supplies they need to enable them to break out of the cycle of poverty by promoting and fostering education. The library will contain school text books that meet Kenya's top curriculum requirements. We will also provide books for enjoyment, as well as an arts and crafts section. The library will also give the children a place to study and learn. This will help children, teachers, and parents enormously.
The entire library complex will have the library, a study room, a computer lab, and a conference room for prayer or youth group meetings. Most children of Meto have never been exposed to computers or the internet - something that is so essential for them, a qualification they need to apply for higher education or jobs. With the computer lab, we will be able to introduce them to computers at an early age.
The last phase still needs funding to furnish the library with desks, chairs, and shelves, and to supply text books and educational materials. Please consider supporting our efforts to promote education for the kids of Meto. Each $10 can buy 5 books for a student. Giving by check? Other giving options click here >
